Love it! - Pineapple lamp

I've been seeing pineapples everywhere, but usually used in a more traditional manner. So when I saw this fun and modern interpretation, it really jumped out. As prevalent as the pineapple motif is, the lamp has other great design elements - bold color, banding on the shade, so the design is really about the whole lamp. Somehow the pineapple becomes less literal and much more digestible!

Love it! - End tables

So I received a note from a reader who loved the new coffee table I purchased and blogged about, but they wanted to know about end tables. Well in addition to my search for the perfect coffee table, I've also been doing the rounds for new end tables. There happens to be two that I love from Bernhardt - a bit out of my budget, but if you've got the funds, they're definitely noteworthy. Dynamic silhouettes and the bobbin look that is so now.

Love it! - My new coffee table!

When I recently decided to buy a new coffee table, I had no idea of the hunt I was about to embark on. I had many considerations and being a comparative shopper, unfortunately I need to know I've exhausted ALL my resources before settling on such an integral piece! Over the past week, I must have looked at over 500 different tables of every major and minor retailer - mostly reviewing online. The criteria were:

Price point: Around $500 (come on, we're in a recession, I have to work the sales)
Dimensions: No deeper than 30", no wider than 50" and taller than 17".
Style: Traditional with a twist - classic.
Material/color: Warm brown wood with variation, not too dark, not too light.
Features: Preferably rectangular, not too heavy looking, distict details and MUST have a draw for remotes. My last coffee table didn't look so hot with 4 remotes atop.

So as you can see, I had quite the task, but through perseverance and a couple computer-headaches later, I found it. Matching ALL my criteria, I definitely had to share my hard work with you all!

Love it! - Chevron rugs

Few things catch my eye, but when I saw this en vogue chevron rug today, I stopped in my tracks. Coincidentally, just yesterday I was thinking about how I love wooden floors laid in a chevron pattern, but how expensive that must be. Well if you want to make the same statement but at an affordable price, this is a perfect alternative! Though NEW at West Elm, it's on sale for a limited time. An 8x10 will only cost you $367!

Love it! - Antiques Encyclopedia

I just found the best text book size reference guide to everything you wanted to know about furniture and decorative arts - all in one book! It's called, "Miller's Antiques Encyclopedia" by Judith Miller. If you love interior design, but don't always know the difference between French, English and American furniture or a klismos leg versus cabriole, a bun foot versus spade or a chinoiserie handle versus plain drop - then this will be your design bible!

Love it! - Cell Phones for Soldiers

If you follow Dose of Design, you know I post about humanitarian causes wherever I can. My "Design" blog is of course about the home products market, but also an outlet in which I can bring attention to social causes that I find noteworthy. I had seen the story of Cell Phones for Soldiers on The Oprah Show last year and was very moved by their story. I myself am on my third cell phone and donated my two older phones that were just sitting in a draw. Donated cell phones are sold to a company that recycles them. The money they receive from recycling cell phones is used to purchase calling cards that are sent to troops in need. The phones are sent to ReCellular, which pays Cell Phones for Soldiers for each donated phone – enough to provide an hour of talk time to soldiers abroad. Cell Phones for Soldiers was founded by teenagers Robbie and Brittany Bergquist from Norwell, Mass., with $21 of their own money. Since then, the registered 501c3 non-profit organization has raised almost $2 million in donations and distributed more than 500,000 prepaid calling cards to soldiers serving overseas. You can even print a prepaid label through their website if you don't want to front the shipping cost. I think these two teenage founders are a perfect example of the human spirit and how limitless we are in making a difference in the world. It's a wonderful cause that will hopefully touch you all as well!
